Mind is Powerful

As a man thinks,so is he!

When I was a little girl,I loved playing more than I loved eating(those who know me now can imagine how much I loved playing lol) and this affected my studies as I even copied assignments. I had “great” friends who’d always give me their books for copying! I just didn’t have the time to study.

My mum beat the hell out of me every weekend because she’d leave and find chores not done because I spent the whole day playing!

Well,a time came and I’d be greatly exposed by my KPCE results! When I went for my results,my headteacher looked at me and smiled, then he said “well done Wangando’s” (my grandpa is a well known person and we’d all be referred by his name, Wangando). “You just missed two marks!”. In my head I was like, what? So I didn’t need to study after all if all I missed was two marks! I started smiling but that changed the moment my head teacher handed me my results slip. I had scored 198 marks. Total marks! Jeez, who scores such marks from a family of performers?! Well, what followed is history.

My dad was a highschool teacher, girls’ school, and he’d made it clear that I’d have to earn admission,he didn’t change his mind and the only option I was left with was to repeat. After a long fight,I accepted “Neck sided” 🤣. I joined the only private school in our village then. There was no way I’d repeat at the same school I was previously. Now,the new school had upto class 7. You dig? I didn’t have many choices. Either go back to my old school or repeat in the new school but start again from class 7.

Scoring 198 marks had to some extent tampered with my esteem but the manager at the new school had such belief in me. We had meetings every morning where he’d talk to me about the power of positive thinking and that I was born to be great! We’d set goals for every upcoming exam. I’d work really hard to achieve the set goals and we’d again set new goals for the next exam. If I didn’t get to the goals set,we’d look at whether I improved or not and there’s no day I didn’t improve even if it was with 5 marks. This had such a great impact and by the time I sat for the next KCPE exams,I was well prepared! Not that I had stopped playing but I created time for studies as well.

In my second KCPE seating I scored 352/500 and was admitted to one of the best girls’ school in my county. Power of positive thinking was then my drive and I passed well in the KCSE exams that I didn’t have to repeat. Lol!

Think positively about yourself, set goals, work hard and smart to achieve them and when you don’t achieve exactly what you wanted, look at the small improvements and that will motivate you.

I’ll be sharing about my fitness journey in this platform and I hope to inspire you. Stay tuned!
